Abstract
Background and Aim: Due to the spread of COVID-19, numerous instructional videos have been developed for various subjects, including mathematics, and uploaded to different websites such as Filimoschool. Examining these sources from an educational perspective is essential, considering their diversity and audience acceptance. This research aims to evaluate the fifth-grade math videos on Filimoschool, focusing on content, techniques, and teaching plans.
Methods: The statistical population consists of the films from the second half of the fifth-grade Mathematical Filimoschool, totaling 3 hours and 17 minutes, which were evaluated entirely. The tool employed combined two checklists across three axes with 43 items. Friedman's one-sample t-test was utilized to analyze the data.
Results: The instructional videos were assessed based on three dimensions: content, technical, and teaching method. Here are the findings: Technical dimension: sound and image quality (favorable), variety of views (favorable). Content dimension: accuracy, usefulness, organization, focus, alignment with audience characteristics, and educational goals (desirable). Teaching method dimension: objective statement, attention-grabbing, appropriate methods, clear presentation, visual and auditory aids, reflection and critical thinking, repetition of key points, comprehensive presentation (desirable), formative and summative assessment, provision of supplementary materials, feedback and reinforcement (unfavorable), content summary (moderate).
Conclusion: It is recommended that various teaching methods be employed that are relevant to the content. The conclusion should be presented at the end of the instructional film. The videos should be interactive, incorporating questions for formative and summative evaluation along with feedback. Utilize transparent boards in teaching.
