Abstract
Background and Aim: The ever-increasing variety and frequency of non-academic incivility has turned it into one of the challenges of the educational environment. Therefore, this research was conducted with the aim of predicting academic incivility based on motivation to progress with the mediating role of self-compassion in students. Methods: The research was descriptive and of the correlation type (structural equations type). the statistical population of the research included all female students studying in the first secondary level of Tehran in the academic year of 2022-2023, of which 250 students were considered with the multi-stage cluster random sampling method, and they responded to the research tools including academic norm avoidance questionnaire, progress motivation questionnaire, and self-compassion questionnaire. the data were analyzed by correlation coefficient, regression and T-soble method. Results: The results of the hypothesis test showed that progress motivation and self-compassion have the power to explain 0.36% and 0.29% of the variance of academic deviant behavior score in female students of the first secondary level, respectively (p<0.05). the indirect effect of achievement motivation on academic deviant behavior with the mediating role of self-compassion was also significant (p<0.05). In general, the findings showed that the proposed model has a relatively good fit with the data. Conclusion: Using the results of this research can help to reduce the occurrence of abnormal academic behaviors by making learners aware of their behaviors and their motivational skills in academic situations.
