Abstract
Background and Aims: The present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment-based parenting training on psychological flexibility, mind wandering, and meta-worry in mothers with adolescent children.
Method: The research design was quasi-experimental and pre-test-post-test with a control group. The statistical population of this study included mothers with teenage children participating in the reading group of the Mothers Today Institute in Sari city, 43 people, during the third quarter of 1402. Among those who were willing to participate in the study and met the inclusion criteria, 30 people were selected and selected through purposeful and accessible sampling and randomly placed in the experimental and control groups. The data collection tools in the present study included the Ben Isaac, Bluestein, and Moore (2004) Cognitive Flexibility Questionnaire, the Carrier et al. (2013) Mind Wandering Questionnaire, and the Adrienne Wells Metaworry Questionnaire (2009). The data were analyzed using SPSS-22 software and analysis of covariance statistical tests.
Findings: The findings from the statistical data analysis showed that parenting training based on acceptance and commitment was effective on cognitive flexibility, mind wandering and meta-worry of mothers and as a result, this protocol can be used to improve the parenting style of parents.
Conclusion: Acceptance and Commitment Parenting Skills Training improves parents' knowledge of parenting, increases their adaptability, and improves mother-child interactions. This training helps parents better manage their children's aggressive or problematic behaviors while recognizing and reinforcing their children's positive behaviors.
